Course Content
This course will give you the opportunity to explore your imagination and creativity and the skills you need to start designing your own fashion range. Learn about the creative process, how to research and respond to a subject or theme and base designs on your ideas as they develop. This series of practical workshops will also explore innovative drawing and design methods using a variety of mediums, taking an initial idea through to a final design. You will also develop ways of presenting your ideas looking at illustrative techniques and fashion presentation boards.
This course is for anyone aged 19 or over. Basic IT skills are essential.
This course will be delivered online. You will need access to the internet and an email account. Your teacher will contact you on a weekly basis through Zoom and email. Please purchase, create a sketchbook, or file to present your work in. Practical equipment you will need includes materials such as drawing paper, tracing paper, sketching and coloured pencils, pens, markers, rubber, watercolour, or acrylic paints. drawing inks and paint brushes. A selection of collage materials such as recycled paper or newspaper, magazines, and tissue paper. Scissors and PVA glue / glue stick will be needed. Don't worry if you can't provide all the resources. We will work with what you can bring along and you can add to your materials as you progress.
Your tutor will give you verbal and written feedback on your project throughout the course, with guidance on how to improve and continue to develop your skills.
You will receive an NYCC Certificate of Achievement after successfully completing the course.
You could move onto further creative courses to develop your ideas including an accredited course in creative craft specialising in textiles. Please check our prospectus, as new courses are available throughout the year

  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
