Course Content
This course is suitable for those who are new to an office environment, going self-employed or looking to retrain for an accounting/bookkeeping role and have completed the Introduction to the Level 1 Accounting Software course.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

• Use Sage to set up accounts
• Account for payments and receipts
• Produce basic reports showing information entered
• Keep information safe and store data within Sage
• Fundamentals of Bookkeeping
• Obtain a recognised qualification


This course also includes access via the Sage portal to Sage Accounts 2021 for 180 days.
The Skillsfirst Level 1 Award in Computerised Accounting for Business is suited to learners who are interested in an introduction to accounting qualification.
You will need access to a Laptop.
This course will be delivered online using Skype / Teams. You will need access to the internet and an Email account. Your teacher will contact you via Skype/ Teams/ Email, and you will have the opportunity to contribute to group discussions across the County. You may be given tasks to complete at each session and online demonstrations.
The Skillsfirst Level 1 Award in Computerised Accounting for Business consists of two elements - a knowledge assessment and a skills assessment, both are assessed online at home.
Upon Successful completion of a home based Sage Portal Assessment you will achieve the Skillsfirst Level 1 Award in Computerised Accounting for Business
On successful completion of this course you can progress to Level 2 Computerised Accounts for Business, level 1 Access Award in Bookkeeping, Level 1 or 2 in Computerised Payroll or AAT level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting. Those wishing to move onto level 2, must have a level 1 literacy & numeracy qualification, & preferably be working towards level 2.

  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
