Course Content
If you have previous experience in dressmaking but would like to develop and improve on these skills, then this course is for you. You will learn further processes and techniques within garment construction, such as reading commercial patterns, to increase confidence in your own dressmaking projects. This is a great follow on course from Beginners Dressmaking.

Open Entry Requirements

This course is for anyone aged 19 or over. Previous experience using a sewing machine is essential, with some knowledge of garment construction, reading a basic pattern, sewing techniques and processes required. Basic IT skills are essential.

Open What Will I Need?

This course will be delivered online. You will need access to the internet and an email account. Your teacher will contact you on a weekly basis through Zoom and email. You will need a working sewing machine and equipment, commercial dressmaking pattern, and pieces of material to use for practising processes and techniques.

Open Assessment Methods

Your tutor will give you verbal and written feedback on your progress throughout the course, with hints and tips on how to improve your technique and continue to develop your skills.

Open What Will I Achieve?

You will receive an Adult Learning Certificate of Achievement after successfully completing the course.

Open Progression

We have follow on courses such as altering and upcycling items of clothing, making contemporary or vintage clothes from patterns, home textiles or creative textiles.

  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
