Course Content
Do you need to get to grips with digital skills? The Essential Digital Skills Qualification entry level 3 (EDSQ) is ideal for anyone with limited experience of using digital devices or the internet. This is a condensed version of the course and by working on your skills one day a week, you will complete the qualification over a shorter period. If you are over 19 and don’t already have a qualification in digital skills, the course is free!

The qualification covers all five skills areas below:
1. Using devices and handling information.
2. Creating and editing.
3. Communicating.
4. Transactions.
5. Being safe and responsible online.

Our specialist teachers will help you to learn new skills as you work independently, in pairs and as a group, completing a variety of activities to suit your learning needs. You will build your skills through regular practice and receive a certificate after successfully completing the course.

Open Entry Requirements

This is for anyone aged 19 or over . You will be required to complete a skills assessment prior to enrolling onto this course.
You should have completed the Foundation digital skills course prior to joining this class or be able to demonstrate the following computer skills:
• turn on a device (including entering and updating any account information safely, such as a password);
• use the available controls on a device (such as a mouse and keyboard for a computer, or touchscreen on a smartphone or tablet);
• make use of accessibility tools (including assistive technology) to make devices easier to use (such as changing display settings to make content easier to read);
• interact with the home screen on a device;
• connect to the internet (including Wi-Fi) safely and securely, and open a browser;
• open and access an application on a device.

Open What Will I Need?

You will need to have regular access to a personal computer with Microsoft Office installed. Please bring a notepad, pen or pencil and a small folder for handouts and your work. You may wish to use a memory stick.
This course will, be delivered online. You will need access to the internet and an email account. Your teacher will contact you on a weekly basis through Zoom and email. You will, be given tasks to complete at each session with instructions and online demonstrations.

Open Assessment Methods

Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course and you will complete two online assessments which cover the knowledge and skills taught during the course.

Level 1 Essential Digital Skills Qualifications (BCS) or Level 1 ECDL certificate in IT user skills (BCS).

  • English, maths including GCSEs and computing courses (up to Level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2023).
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your individual employed/self employed income is below £20,319.
  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
