Do you need to improve your digital skills? The Essential Digital Skills Qualification for Work Level 1 (EDSQ) is ideal for anyone with some current experience of using digital devices or the internet. This is a condensed version of the course, delivered over two evenings a week, enabling you to achieve the qualification over a shorter period. If you are over 19 and don’t already have a qualification in digital skills, the course is free!

The BCS qualifications cover all five skills areas below:
1. Using devices and handling information.
2. Creating and editing.
3. Communicating.
4. Transactions.
5. Being safe and responsible online.

Our specialist teachers will help you to develop your skills as you work independently, in pairs and as group completing a variety of activities to suit your learning needs. You will build your skills through regular practice and receive a certificate after successfully completing the course.

Takes place Tuesday & Thursday each week.

Open Entry Requirements

This course is for anyone aged 19 or over. You will be required to complete a skills assessment prior to enrolling onto this course.
You should have completed the Essential Digital Skills entry 3 qualification prior to joining this class or be able to demonstrate sufficient computer skills in the skills assessment.

Open What Will I Need?

You will need to have regular access to a personal computer with Microsoft Office installed. Please bring a notepad, pen or pencil and a small folder for handouts and your work. You may wish to use a memory stick.
This course will be delivered online. You will need access to the internet and an email account. Your teacher will contact you on a weekly basis through Zoom and email and you will have the opportunity to contribute to group discussions across the County. You will be given tasks to complete at each session with instructions and online demonstrations.

Open Assessment Methods

Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course and you will complete two online assessments covering knowledge and skills.

  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
