Course Content
Decorate a table top using colourful mosaic tiles and tesserae. The first session of the course will provide you with all the information you’ll need prior to making a start, including the resources you will need. The second session will be a fortnight later – to allow you time to obtain all of the resources, in this session you’ll make a start on your mosaic design.
Course dates -
- Monday 28th June – 6.30pm – 7.30pm
- Monday 12th July – 6.30pm – 8.00pm
- Monday 19th July – 6.30pm – 8.00pm
- Monday 26th July – 6.30pm – 8.00pm
- Wednesday 28th July – 6.30pm – 8.00pm

Open Entry Requirements

This course is for anyone aged 19 or over. Basic IT skills are essential.

Some basic experience of mosaic is desirable but not essential.

Open What Will I Need?

To take part in this course you will need to obtain your own table with flat surface. You will be expected to do some Mosaic in your own time between the sessions. In the first session we will go through all the items you will need, you DO NOT need the mosaic items for the first session.
For all sessions you will need;
- access to a Laptop or Tablet with webcam or Smartphone
- This course will be delivered online. You will need access to the internet and an email account. Your teacher will contact you on a weekly basis through Microsoft Teams.
You will also need;
- Old table with a flat table top, ideally no larger than 1 metre by 1 metre square
- Varnish or sealant (tutor to advise on first session
- Greaseproof paper
- Paint brush (decorating type)
- Old cloths/rags
- Pencil
- Tape measure or ruler
- Strong glue – UHU or bostick
- Glass mosaic tiles or old broken crockery – tutor to advise on first session
- Tile nippers
- Goggles
- Flexible grout
- Spirit level
- An old yoghurt pot or margarine tub (for mixing grout)
- Old newspaper to cover your workspace
- Apron to wear – or old clothes
- NOT essential – you may also want to choose your own old broken crockery to include in your design.

We may be able to will provide you with the following if you haven’t already got them, if you would like to purchase them yourself we can provide you with links to relevant suppliers.
If we provide you with the materials below there will be an additional materials cost, please advise the Adult Learning Service when you book on the course if you would like us to get these items for you;
- Mosaic tile nippers
- A selection of glass mosaic tiles
- Grout

Open Assessment Methods

Informal – the tutor will observe how you progress and offer help if needed.

Open What Will I Achieve?

You will learn new skills that you can use in other projects.

Open Progression

This is a one off course, you may wish to make another Mosaic table in future on your own at home

  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
