Course Content
This qualification provides you with an introduction to the knowledge and understanding needed to work in a school or college environment. It can apply to the many varied roles that full and part-time support staff may fulfil including: administrative roles, site support roles, technical roles and volunteers, as well as roles that work directly with children and young people in the learning environment.
This course is for anyone aged 19 or over. No previous experience is required. Basic IT skills are essential.
The qualification is aimed at a range of learners, including young people, mature learners, learners with special educational needs or where English is an additional language, who are thinking of working in a school or college setting.
This course will be delivered online. You will need to have regular access to the internet, a personal computer and email account to make the most of the online sessions. Some paper resources may be sent to you to support you to study.
All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods, which could include written assignments or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet, charts or diagrams, or setting up an information board.
NCFE Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and Colleges qualification
The award shares mandatory units with the level 2 Certificate in supporting teaching and learning qualification, providing a direct progression route.

  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
