Course Content

Create a gorgeous lampshade and bring a unique style to a room
in your home. You will explore design methods and construction processes as well as developing craft and hand sewing techniques. This would also make an ideal festive gift

Open Entry Requirements


This course is for anyone aged 19 or over. No sewing experience
is necessary and this course is suitable for both the beginner and the enthusiastic sewer.

Open What Will I Need?


You will need a frame, fabrics and trimmings to create your lampshade. This will be discussed in session one.

Open Assessment Methods


Your tutor will give you verbal and written feedback on your progress throughout the course, with hints and tips on how to improve your technique and continue to develop your skills.

Open What Will I Achieve?


You will receive an Adult Learning Certificate of Achievement after successfully completing the course.

Open Progression


You could go on to develop your sewing machine skills, start a dressmaking course or join a home tor creative textiles course. Ask your tutor about courses starting in the new year.

  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your individual employed/self employed income is below £20,319.
  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
