Get off to a flying start with our pre course skills workshops for level 1 Creative Crafts in Textiles

You’ll be encouraged to develop your confidence using a range of easily accessible materials and experimenting with different techniques such as mixed media and fabric collage, applique, hand sewing and weaving.

You will also start to become familiar with the different ways you will be learning and presenting your work, such as how to create a sketchbook page and how to photograph work to present online using the platform Padlet.

Your tutor will support you with any IT issues so that you feel confident moving onto the accredited qualification

You will also get the chance to find out about face-to-face workshops and ‘on location’ study sessions in your area.

There will also be a learning and skills adviser available to discuss funding and any additional support needs

Open Entry Requirements

This course is for anyone aged 19 or over who wants to progress to L1 Creative Craft (Textiles) Basic IT skills are essential.

Open What Will I Need?

This course offers a combination of online and face-to-face learning. You will need access to the internet and an email account. Your teacher will contact you on a weekly basis through email and Teams, the online learning platform. Please purchase or create a sketchbook, cartridge paper, or file to present your work in. Practical equipment you will need includes a sewing machine or hand sewing equipment, threads, wools and fabric scraps. Materials such as sketching pencils, pens, markers, watercolour / acrylic paints /drawing inks and paintbrushes selection. Scissors and PVA glue and/ or glue stick. Collage materials such as recycled paper or newspaper, magazines, and tissue paper. We encourage you to plan ahead to join the ‘on location’ study sessions and the face to face skills workshops.

Open Assessment Methods

We are committed to ensuring that our assessment methods are as visual as possible. You will showcase your work in a creative portfolio and on Padlet and you’ll get valuable individual feedback in your learning plan .

You will achieve an ALSS certificate on successful completion of these workshops.

  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your individual employed/self employed income is below £20,319.
  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
