Learning in the local community has changed the lives of many adults across North Yorkshire and you could be one of them!
Research shows that learning throughout adulthood and into later life encourages important social interaction, gives a sense of hope and purpose and helps cope with stress, all of which has a positive impact on maintaining and improving our mental health and wellbeing.
This course will take a look at myths, legends and folklore through a gothic lens. You will explore features of gothic literature and find out how the landscape and ancient stories of Yorkshire have influenced and inspired writers such as Bram Stoker and the Bronte sisters, to create gothic classics. If you have an interest in this genre, enjoy local history or want to develop your own writing techniques, this course could appeal to you.
During the course you will:
• Read and discuss ancient stories local to the area.
• Explore ways in which writers have used plot features and superstitions within the gothic genre.
• Study and use language techniques to create a ‘gothic’ mood and atmosphere in your own writing.
This course is delivered for up to 10 hours in 5 weekly sessions.
