If the thought of having to join a class online is overwhelming this short course is for you. This course is for anyone new to learning online. It is designed to guide you through how an online classroom works and prepare you to study online. By the end of the session you will be able to:
• Respond to an invitation to join an online class in Zoom
• Use the features of Zoom to use your microphone and camera, share your screen, send messages in Chat to your teacher
• Feel more comfortable with this format of learning
• Troubleshoot minor connection issues
• Take two simple steps to stay safe when learning online.
You will need to know how to use a computer to open applications and access menus and to use a mouse/touchpad and a keyboard to select items on the screen. You can join the course at home or in the library using a library computer (where you will be given help to get started).
This course will be run online using Zoom. If you are joining at home you will need to be able to access an email containing a link to join the class and instructions on how to open Zoom. You will need a stable connection to the internet and have your device (computer, laptop, tablet) fully charged.
Alternatively, if you would like to take part but don't have access to a computer, please contact us and we will book a library computer for you. We can book you a computer at the following libraries: Scarborough, Harrogate, Northallerton, Selby and Skipton. Please be assured all the libraries are operating to the social distancing guidelines and this is why computers must be booked in advance at the selected Libraries taking part. In order to listen to the course at one of the above libraries, you will be required to bring along your own headphones with a round 3.5mm connector.
If you are joining from the library, you will use a library pc and a member of the library will assist you in joining Zoom.
If you book online and need a computer booking at a library, please email us at to confirm which library.
If you have difficulty enrolling please call our Adult Learning Team on 01609 536066.
Verbal feedback through the session.
