Course Content

This is an accredited course leading to the AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting.

The Advanced Certificate in Accounting covers a range of complex accounting tasks, including maintaining cost accounting records and the preparation of reports and returns while complying to Accounting ethics. It comprises 6 mandatory units:
Advanced Bookkeeping
Final Accounts Preparation
Indirect Tax
Management Accounts: Costing
Ethics for Accounts
Spreadsheets for Accounting
By the end of the course you should be able to:
Prepare final accounts for sole traders and partnerships.
Complete year-end adjustments such as depreciation, accruals and prepayments.
Record the purchase, sale and other entries for fixed assets.
Calculate VAT and prepare a VAT return.
Present data using advanced spreadsheet techniques
Apply Accounting Ethics
Produce basic Management Acounts and Variance analysis

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2021 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.

You must hold an AAT qualification at level 2 or equivalent, maths and English at level 2 and be working at level 2 in ICT.


You will need access to a Laptop.
This course will be delivered online using Teams. You will need access to the internet and an Email account. Your teacher will contact you via Teams/ Email, and you will have the opportunity to contribute to group discussions across the County. You may be given tasks to complete at each session and online demonstrations.


Practice questions and assessments are completed at home and in class.
The AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting consists of five AAT assessed modules. (Due to Covid restrictions the only assessment centres currently available are Ripon and Scarborough).


Upon Successful completion of all the AAT assessments you will achieve the AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting


Skillsfirst Level 3 Diploma in Computerised Accounts for Business (Sage).

  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
