Course Content

This course gives you the opportunity to discover and develop artwork using various practical methods. You will explore how you can incorporate the concept of mindfulness into your artwork and begin to see how being creative and developing mindful practice can complement each other. You will learn through tutor led demonstrations and practical activities in a calming and respectful environment, exploring your individual artistic style. There will be opportunities to explore a range of mediums with reference to a variety of artists’ work, which will aid as inspiration. The session will also include activities to help you connect and respond to materials and the subject matter. This course is suitable for beginners who want to develop skills and processes within Art and Design. If you have previous experience in this subject, you will be able to develop these skills and learn new techniques.

This course is for anyone aged 19 or over. Basic IT skills are essential.

This course is delivered online. You will need access to the internet and an email account. Your teacher will contact you on a weekly basis on Teams, an online video platform and by e-mail. Don’t worry if you are not confident with logging onto a Teams meeting, your teacher will help you to get started.

Practical equipment you will need includes a sketchbook or cartridge paper, sketching pencils, pens or markers, watercolour / acrylic paints /drawing inks and a selection of paintbrushes. You should also have scissors, PVA glue and/ or a glue stick and collage materials such as recycled paper or newspaper, magazines and tissue paper.

Your tutor will give you verbal and written feedback on your project throughout the course, with guidance on how to improve and continue to develop your skills.

You will receive an NYCC Certificate of Achievement after successfully completing the course.

You could move onto further Textiles or sewing courses, or the accredited course in creative textiles. There is also a range of sewing courses to develop creative ideas.

  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
