Course Content

This course will give you the opportunity to create your own bespoke cushion cover to brighten up your living space. Over the course, you will learn key sewing, textile and printing techniques to help develop ideas leading to designing your individual cushion cover. You will then be shown construction processes and methods in order to make your cushion, whatever size or shape!

Open Entry Requirements


This course is for anyone aged 19 or over. Basic sewing machine experience
is necessary and this course is also suitable for the enthusiastic sewer.

Open What Will I Need?


You will need a sewing machine, fabrics and trimmings to create your cushion, which will be discussed in session one. Fabric paints, embellishments, wools and embroidery thread may be needed dependent on design.

Open Assessment Methods


Your tutor will give you verbal and written feedback on your progress throughout the course, with hints and tips on how to improve your technique and continue to develop your skills.

Open What Will I Achieve?


You will receive an Adult Learning Certificate of Achievement after successfully completing the course.

Open Progression


We have follow on courses such as developing sewing machine skills, dressmaking , home textiles or creative textiles.

  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your individual employed/self employed income is below £20,319.
  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
