Course Content

This course aims to help develop confidence in using your own computer and is ideal for people who have some knowledge of basic computing and word processing but wish to develop their skills further for personal use or work.

The course will help you to:
• Create, store and retrieve a word processed document
• Apply basic formatting to text in a word processed document
• Recognise common computer terminology
• Practice keyboard and mouse skills
• Improve computer safety and security
• Develop skills for learning online including sharing your screen and viewing your teacher’s screen

During the course you will be supported to work on documents of your own choice (letters, CVs etc) and participate in activities set by your teacher.

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2021 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.

You will need a notebook and pen. You will be given tasks to complete at the session along with instructions .

Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course.

You will receive an ALSS certificate of achievement on successful completion of this course.

  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
