Course Content

This short 6 week online course aims to provide you with the basic knowledge required to care for different types of house plants. You’ll learn to identify different types of houseplants and how to care for them, including watering, feeding and potting on when they grow too big for their container.

This course is for anyone aged 19 or over. Basic IT skills are essential.

To complete the course you will need access to a Laptop/Tablet with webcam or smart phone, an email account and the internet. This course is delivered online. Your teacher will contact you via Teams.

Informal; question and answer, group discussion and quizzes/activities.

You will learn how to identify houseplants.
You will be able to describe different methods of caring for houseplants, according to their preferred growing conditions.

Your teacher will discuss similar courses if you wish to study gardening and horticulture further.

  • English, maths including GCSEs and computing courses (up to Level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2023).
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your individual employed/self employed income is below £20,319.
  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
