Course Content

ICDL is an internationally recognised qualification. This level 1 unit is designed to give an initial overview of the Word Processing M/S Office software for the learner who wishes to gain an ICT qualification. By improving your skills, you will be able to work more efficiently in your job, at home or with IT in general. It follows a structured syllabus working through a series of separately assessed units covering specific knowledge areas and skills.

This unit will allow you to create professional word documents using formatting techniques, page layout tools and manipulate images.

You will work through a variety of exercises to suit your learning needs and will work individually, in pairs or in groups led by a specialist teacher.

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2021 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.
You will be required to complete a skills assessment prior to enrolling onto this course.
Whilst no entry qualifications are required for the Level 1 Certificate, basic keyboard and mouse skills are necessary and some familiarity with the Internet is desirable.
If you feel you do not have these skills, you may wish to enrol on a First Steps in Computers course first.

Handouts and exercises will be provided, if you are keen to take notes, please bring a notepad, pen or pencil and you will benefit from having a USB memory stick for working on exercises away from class (not essential for the first week).

Your teacher will assess your knowledge at the start of the course and your individual learning will be tailored accordingly. Observation of your progress throughout the tasks along with sample assessments will be used to confirm your abilities. Completion of each unit is followed by an invigilated exam set by the British Computer Society (BCS).
