Course Content

This course is for anyone whose work involves an element of lone working and wishes to explore options to develop positive lone working strategies that increase confidence and safety when working alone. During the course we will discuss some simple techniques including the role of our own instinct in helping keeping us safe as well as technology that can increase our safety at work, when volunteering or when living our lives.
1. Identify the personal safety legal requirements of organisations and employees/volunteers
2. Give two examples of personal safety devices or procedures
3. Compare the advantages and disadvantages of two types of personal safety devices or procedures
4. Evaluate risks to personal safety in a given situation and identify ways to increase safety


The course will be delivered on the Zoom platform. You will need an internet connection and access to a computer or tablet.
To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2021 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.


There will be some small group work and one-to-one support as required.
Your teacher will give you verbal feedback throughout the course.


You will receive an ALSS certificate of achievement on successful completion of this course.

  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your individual employed/self employed income is below £20,319.
  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
