Course Content

A new start for us all so how better to celebrate with July 4TH American Independence Day!
We all come together to celebrate making American celebration ideas with foods such as
burgers( beef & vegetarian variety), coleslaw, blueberry jelly yogurt and mini pecan tarts on the
menu.
These sessions will provide recipes with fresh ideas to update your home culinary expertise
showing how you can adapt your favourite recipes, prepare and store foods. Discussion on the
recipes with knowledge of ingredients, how to prepare and alternative ingredients to be used,
dietary advice to aid everyone joining together for the social aspect of enjoying food.
This celebration brings us all together to prepare, cook, eat and socialise once again and then
try the recipes at home with the recipe handouts provided.
Dietary requirements will be taken into consideration.
Your teacher will share hints, tips and demonstrate some basic skills. We will discuss how to
look after your health and wellbeing during the current climate and how what we eat can
improve our health and make us more resilient.


Only for members of Mens's Shed, Northallerton
This course is for anyone aged 19 or over.
No previous experience is required. Basic IT skills are essential.

A notepad and pen/ pencil to take notes during the session
ou may also want a folder to keep your recipes and notes in, so they can be referred to
during the session


Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course.


You will receive an ALSS certificate of achievement on successful completion of this course.

  • English, maths including GCSEs and computing courses (up to Level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2023).
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your individual employed/self employed income is below £20,319.
  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
