Course Content

This course will give you the skills and confidence in using a sewing machine. You will learn how to use the sewing machine’s key features, with advice on threading, tensions and how to change feet. You will also explore basic sewing processes, such as seams and hems, producing fabrics samples. This course is suitable for complete beginners, who have recently bought a sewing machine and would like to learn how to use it efficiently or for those who were considering purchasing a machine and would like to practice these skills first.

This course is for anyone aged 19 or over as at 31st August 2021. This course is aimed at beginners or for those with some basic experience.

This course will be delivered face to face. A basic range of practical equipment will be provided such as sewing machinery, tools and equipment. However, you may want to provide your own threads, fabric quarters or scraps to practice with and personalise your samples. You will also need a note book and pen.

Your tutor will give you verbal and written feedback on your progress throughout the course, with hints and tips on how to improve your technique and continue to develop your skills.

You will receive an Adult Learning Certificate of Achievement after successfully completing the course.

We have follow on courses such as developing Dressmaking skills, Home textiles or Creative Textiles.
