Course Content

This session will provide you with an awareness of dementia for those working in a social care setting. It is aimed at learners in the education, local authority or private work setting. This will enable learners to understand what dementia is, causes, types, effective strategies and approaches, roles of carers and others in the support of a person with dementia. You will explore ways of working with a person with dementia with diverse needs and how to work in a person-centred way.

This course is for anyone aged 19 or over as at 31st August 2022. No previous experience is required. Basic IT skills are essential.

You will need access to a Laptop, Tablet or Smartphone.
This course will be delivered online. You will need access to the internet and an email account. Your teacher will contact you on a weekly basis through Teams Classroom /email and you will have the opportunity to contribute to group discussions across the County. You will be given tasks to complete at each session and instructions and online demonstrations.

Your teacher will give you verbal and written feedback throughout the course.

You will receive an ALSS certificate of achievement on successful completion of this course.

  • English, maths including GCSEs and computing courses (up to Level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2023).
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your individual employed/self employed income is below £20,319.
  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
