Course Content

You have some previous experience of working with textiles and want to develop your skills. Whether you want to sell your work independently or planning further study of Creative Design and Production, a Level 2 in Creative Textiles will get you on the right track.


You will build on your current knowledge and learn new practical techniques to ensure you present your ideas effectively. This will include learning how to photograph your work, creating presentation boards and developing drawing techniques for design.


You’ll refine your creative portfolio building skills to evidence your journey from in depth research, creative experimentation and initial designs through to the completed pieces of work.


This course combines live online tuition, excellent video resources, face-to-face skills workshops and inspiring ‘on location’ study sessions. We know that people want to learn in different ways so we make it accessible for all.


If you are planning to start your own business or work in the creative sector, you will also have the opportunity to explore creative enterprise and employment opportunities.


This course is for anyone aged 19 or over. Basic IT skills are essential.


You should have already completed the Level 1 in Creative textiles or be able to evidence previous experience of working with textiles.


You will need to complete the pre course workshops as this will prepare you for progression.

This course offers a combination of live online learning tutorials and face-to-face sessions. You will need access to the internet and an email account. Your teacher will contact you on a weekly basis through email and Teams, the online learning platform.


Please purchase or create a sketchbook, cartridge paper, or file to present your work in. Practical equipment you will need includes a sewing machine or hand sewing equipment, threads, wools and fabric scraps. Materials such as sketching pencils, pens, markers, watercolour / acrylic paints /drawing inks and a selection of paintbrushes, scissors and PVA glue and/ or glue stick. Collage materials such as recycled paper or newspaper, magazines, and tissue paper.


We encourage you to plan ahead to join the ‘on location’ study sessions and the face to face skills workshops

We are committed to ensuring that our assessment methods are as visual as possible. Your creative portfolio and learner log will demonstrate achievement of all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria associated with each unit.


You’ll also be supported by an individual learning plan, which will provide you with valuable feedback. You’ll learn how to evidence your achievements as part of the pre course workshops.


On completion of this course, you will achieve a Level 2 Award in Creative Craft (Textiles)

You could progress to Level 3 Creative Craft. This is an exciting course, which would prepare you for further study of Creative Design and Production or enhance your skills for employment. Your tutor will give you further information.

  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
