Course Content

ECDL is an internationally recognised qualification. This level 2 unit is designed to introduce you to, and to give a working knowledge of the office presentations software, PowerPoint. You will gain knowledge and certification which you can build on through experience and usage. It follows a structured syllabus covering specific knowledge areas and skills. You can complete this as a standalone accredited unit or towards the four assessed individual modules required to achieve the level 2 ECDL qualification.

This unit will allow you to enter data and format worksheets, to demonstrate how to produce high-quality presentations using a variety of tools including charts, graphs and drawn objects. (L2 Presentations)

You will work through a variety of exercises to suit your learning needs and will work individually, in pairs or in groups led by a specialist teacher.


This course is for anyone aged 19 or over. You will be required to complete a skills assessment prior to enrolling onto this course. You should have completed the BCS ECDL Level 1 Certificate in IT User Skills prior to joining this class or be able to demonstrate computer skills at least comparable to those in the Level 1 qualification.


You will need a notepad and pen or pencil. You may also need a USB memory stick and access to a suitable computer away from the classroom.
In the event of social distancing, this course will be delivered online. You will need to have regular access to a personal computer with Microsoft Office installed and email account to make the most of the online sessions. Some paper resources and study books may be sent to you to support you to achieve in these difficult times. Your teacher will provide you with help to get up and running and ongoing regular “classroom” support.


Your teacher will assess your knowledge at the start of the course and within each unit, your individual learning will be tailored accordingly. Observation of your progress throughout the tasks along with sample assessments will be used to confirm your abilities. Completion of each unit is followed by an online assessment set by the British Computer Society (BCS).


On successful completion of this unit you will receive a certificate from BCS. Completion of the four units including the mandatory unit will gain you the BCS Level 2 ECDL Certificate in IT User Skills.


You can progress to other units and following completion of the fiour units, there are a number of IT qualifications available including the BCS ECDL Level 3 Certificate in IT User Skills. Please speak to your local area office or contact BCS for your nearest provider.

  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
