This 8 week programme is an ideal progression from the Get Started with Word Processing course. It is designed to give an overview of Microsoft Word for learners who wish to develop these basic skills. There is a strong emphasis on improving your employability skills; by completing this course, you will be able to work more efficiently in your job, at home and with IT in general. It follows a structured syllabus working through a range of topics to cover specific knowledge areas and skills.
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
• use formatting and page layout tools
• develop document layout for a variety of purposes, for example, CV, Letters, posters, reports, rotas and newsletters
• incorporate images, tables and other objects to enhance your documents
• identify built in tools to effectively produce meaningful documents using a range of techniques
You will work through a variety of exercises and project tasks to suit your learning needs and will work individually, or in groups led by a specialist teacher.

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2022 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.
The course is suitable for those who have a basic understanding of IT, for example, read and reply to emails, attach files to emails, save and locate files and access the Internet, and have successfully completed the 2 week Get Started with Word course.

This is an online course. You will need to have regular access to a personal computer with Microsoft Office installed, a working camera and microphone, and an email account to make the most of the online sessions.
Your teacher will provide you with help to get up and running and offer ongoing regular “classroom” support.

Your teacher will assess your knowledge at the start of the course and your individual learning will be tailored accordingly. Observation of your progress throughout the various tasks and projects will be used to assess your skills.

Following the course, you will be able to save and print a certificate of completion.

You can progress to similar IT courses relating to other Microsoft Office applications. Your teacher will advise you of the suitability and availability of these.
