Course Content
The course will provide an accredited qualification for those who are interested in working in an accounts environment or those looking for a qualification.
By the end of the course students will be able to:
• Understand the role of the bookkeeper
• Understand financial transactions
• Process customer and supplier transactions
• Process receipts and payments
• Understand the benefits and risks of using software to complete bookkeeping tasks
This course is suitable for those with no accounts knowledge who are going self-employed or looking to retrain for an accounting/bookkeeping role.
To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2022 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.

No previous experience is required. Basic IT skills are essential. You must have completed the Introduction to Bookkeeping course.
You will need access to a Laptop & Microsoft Excel
This course will be delivered online using Teams. You will need access to the internet and an Email account. Your teacher will contact you via Teams/ Email, and you will have the opportunity to contribute to group discussions across the County. You may be given tasks to complete at each session and online demonstrations.
Practice questions and assessments are completed at home and in class. The AAT Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping consists of one unit, which is assessed online. (Due to restrictions the only assessment centres currently available are Ripon and Scarborough).
On passing an online AAT assessment you will gain the AAT Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping.

Skillsfirst Level 2 Certificate in Computerised Payroll for Business (Sage).

AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting.
Skillsfirst Level 2 Certificate in Computerised Accounting for Business (Sage).

AAT Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping

  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your individual employed/self employed income is below £20,319.
  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
