Course Content

The aim of this qualification is to recognise the application of a range of IT user skills and knowledge in the workplace, meeting employer workforce demands.

The course requires learners to document around 6 hours of study each week with up to 3 hours online with your teacher. You will be required to work independently on a workbook and other resources, all of which are supported by tutorials and other activity from the specialist teacher. It is essential that learners have access to a computer with Microsoft™ Office 2013 or later installed.

If you are new to ALSS or have been out of education for some time you will be required to attend an Introduction to Level 3 course.

You may be able to apply for a learner loan in order to complete this qualification.


To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2022 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.

You will normally have completed an ECDL/ICDL level 2 qualification recently. A basic knowledge of Access databases would be desirable prior to taking this particular unit.

Throughout each unit ongoing feedback will be provided. Completion of each unit is followed by an online assessment set by BCS.

By the end of the course you will be able to:

Demonstrate the use of advanced word processing application features of to enhance work, improve productivity and save time.

Use a range of expert level spreadsheet skills to realise the full potential of the spreadsheet application to produce higher-quality management information.
