Course Content


The aim of the course is to develop some basic skills in Excel. By the end of the course, you should be able to:

create a budget using spreadsheet software
add data to a spreadsheet
edit data in a spreadsheet
apply calculation techniques (formulas and Functions)
save and retrieve the spreadsheet
print a spreadsheet
demonstrate safe working practice
prepare for the Excel Transferrable Skills course following on from this introductory course.


To be eligible for a free funded course you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2022 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.

It is suitable for those who have a basic understanding of ICT and Excel.


This is an online course. Your teacher will provide you with help to get up and running and offer ongoing regular “classroom” support.

You will need to have regular access to a Windows 10 or Windows 11 personal computer with Microsoft Office installed (2016 or newer), a working camera and microphone, access to the Internet and an email account to make the most of the online sessions. If you are keen to take notes, please have a notepad, pen or pencil to hand.


Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course.


This course will prepare you for progression to an Excel Transferable Skills course.


Your teacher will discuss progression options and these will include, Transferable skills courses, Essentials Digital Skills and Level 3 courses.
