This is a 2-week non-accredited introduction to AAT Level , which needs to be completed prior to progressing to the AAT Level Award in Bookkeeping

This course covers:
• An overview of the AAT suite of qualifications
• English, maths and ICT skills needed for AAT level 1 and 2 qualifications
• Assessing your current English, maths and ICT qualifications
• How will I learn?
• What are the possible progression options?
• Is this the right course for me?
• Assessment format
• Time commitments needed, attendance and planned end dates
You will develop skills and knowledge to manage books effectively. It includes manual double entry bookkeeping and associated documents and processes, up to Trial Balance.


To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2022 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.

This course is for anyone aged 19 or over living in North Yorkshire or with a valid Post Code.
No previous experience is required but a working knowledge of manual and automated Accounts at level 1 is preferred. Basic IT skills are essential.
You should be working a Level 2 in maths and English.


You will need access to a laptop or computer & email.
This course will be delivered online using Teams. You will need access to the internet and an email account. Your teacher will contact you via Teams/email, and you will have the opportunity to contribute to group discussions. You may be given tasks to complete at each session and online demonstrations. You will also need a pen, paper & calculator.

Verbal and/or written feedback will be provided throughout this course.
You will be expected to complete homework before you can progress onto the accredited qualification.


You will achieve an understanding of the requirements of the AAT qualifications, particularly the AAT Award in Bookkeeping


You may wish to progress to AAT Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping

  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
