Course Content

If you have just received a sewing machine for Christmas or you are considering purchasing one then this course is for you.
Over the course you will develop machine sewing skills, building confidence in using the machine and learning basic stitching techniques. You will gain an understanding of how to use the sewing machine’s key features, with advice on threading, tensions and how to change feet. You will also explore basic sewing processes, such as seams and hems, producing fabrics samples. This course is suitable for complete beginners, who have recently bought a sewing machine and would like to learn how to use it efficiently or for those who were considering purchasing a machine and would like to practice these skills first.

This course is for anyone aged 19 or over. This course is aimed at beginners or for those with some basic experience.

This course will be delivered face to face. A basic range of practical equipment will be provided such as sewing machinery, tools and equipment. However, you may want to provide your own threads, fabric quarters or scraps to practice with and personalise your samples. If you have recently bought a new machine then this can be brought into class for you to practice with. You will also need a note book and pen.

Your tutor will give you verbal and written feedback on your progress throughout the course, with hints and tips on how to improve your technique and continue to develop your skills.
