Course Content

This qualification prepares learners for further learning and training whilst developing an understanding of the teaching and learning environment in an Early Years setting. It covers areas of the importance of play, Organisation of an Early Years setting and Roles and responsibilities in Early years.

Entry requirements: This qualification is aimed at a range of learners aged 19+ who are thinking of working in an Early Year’s setting including: young people, mature learners, learners with special educational needs or where English is an additional language. Learners must attend introduction to working with children course prior to level 1.


It would be advisable to bring a pen and paper for any note taking.


This qualification will be internally assessed using a range of methods, which could include written assignments or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet, charts or diagrams, or setting up an information board.

Level 1 Award in an Introduction to Early Years Settings.


Learners can progress onto the Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner.

  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
