Course Content

This 4 week course will extend your skills and explore some of the more advanced Microsoft Word processing techniques. It will introduce you to a range of exciting and time saving tools when working with text.
The course will help you to:
• Customise Word and use a range of time saving word processing tools such as autotext, autocorrect and quick parts
• convert text into a table
• create professional documents and fillable forms
• use macros to help you automate routine tasks
During the course you will be given helpful step-by-step guidance from our specialist teacher to enable you to produce highly professional documents for both work and home.


To be eligible for a free funded course you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2022 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage; we may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.
This is an online course and is suitable for users with existing experience of learning online and using Microsoft Word. You should be comfortable downloading files from emails, selecting text, using the Ribbon and saving and retrieving files on a pc.



You will need a genuine copy of Microsoft Word 2016 or above or a subscription to Microsoft 365. The free online version of Word accessed through Outlook.com will not be suitable. You may wish to have a notepad and pen for taking notes and a folder to store notes and handouts.


Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course.


You will receive an ALSS certificate of achievement on successful completion of this course.


Your teacher will discuss progression options and these will include Further Word courses.

  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
