Course Content


This qualification will enable you to develop foundation skills in textile crafts. It will provide you with knowledge of a range of craft processes and prepare you to progress onto further study in this area.
Learners will develop a portfolio of work in textile craft, use materials, tools and equipment correctly and safely and develop an understanding of health and safety considerations in the craft environment.



To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2023 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.

Basic IT skills are essential. You are expected to complete the free Introduction to Creative Craft as this will prepare you for progression.




In the event of ongoing social distancing, this course will contain online delivery. You will need access to the internet and an email account. Your teacher will contact you on a weekly basis through Skype, email and Moodle. Paper based resources may be sent to you to support you to study.



You will create a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates achievement of all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria associated with each unit.



NCFE Level 1 Award in Creative Crafts (Textiles)



You could progress to NCFE Level 2 Award in Creative Crafts. There are also a number of other courses that may be suitable for you. These include Drawing and design development for textiles, Textiles and surface patterns and a wide range of other sewing courses.

  • Reduced course fees for non-qualification courses if you receive a qualifying benefit.
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your income is below £25,000
  • Discretionary Learner Support funding relating to cover fees, books etc (qualifications only) T&C apply.
  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
