If you like to make your own vibrant, floral or floaty Spring dress, top or skirt, then this is the course for you.
This course will give you the skills and confidence in reading a commercial dressmaking pattern to create a summer garment of choice. You will learn key techniques, construction processes, and terminology, whilst exploring fabric types and finishes to make your garment.
This course is suitable for those who have a basic understanding of the sewing machine, and would like to learn how to construct a basic garment efficiently from a commercial pattern. Alternatively, for those with some experience in garment making and would love to extend these skills further by developing a more complex design and range of techniques.

This course is for anyone aged 19 or over. This course is aimed at those with some basic sewing experience.

This course will be delivered face to face. A basic range of practical equipment will be provided such as sewing machinery, tools and equipment. However, you may want to provide your own threads, fabric quarters or scraps to practice. You will also need to purchase a commercial dressmaking pattern and fabric for your garment. If you are at the beginning of your dressmaking journey, please select a basic level pattern to start with. This is shown on the front of the pattern packet.

Your tutor will give you verbal and written feedback on your progress throughout the course, with hints and tips on how to improve your technique and continue to develop your skills.

You will receive an Adult Learning Certificate of Achievement after successfully completing the course.

We have follow on courses such as Beginners Appliqué or the accredited Creative Craft Textiles Qualification.
