Course Content

This is a 1 week non-accredited face to face session for those who are new to a charity, club or society.
This course covers:
• Different types of not for profit organisations
• Terminology used
• Grants - restricted & unresticted funds. Keeping monitoring paperwork
• How will I learn?
• What are the possible progression options?

You must be aged 19 or over as at 31 August 2023.
You must be competent with IT and be confident in English and maths.

Please bring with you a pen, calculator and paper as you will need to calculate sums.
This course will be delivered at Ripon Community House, Ripon.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to group discussions, calculate figures and have a 1:1 discussion with your tutor to discuss next steps.



Verbal and/or written feedback will be provided throughout this course.


You will achieve an understanding of the different types of not-for-profit organisations, accounting terminology and record keeping for grants.

  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
