Course Content

The course will provide an accredited qualification for those who are interested in balancing their home income & outgoings, or those looking for a qualification.
By the end of the course students will be able to:
• List sources of income & expenditure
• Understand how to reduce outgoings
• Know the difference between a need & a want
• Calculate a remaining balance
• Understand advantages & disadvantages of borrowing money.

This course is suitable for those looking to manage their personal income.


To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2023 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.

No previous experience is required. Basic IT skills are essential. You must have completed the Introduction to Managing Personal Finances

You need to have maths & English at Entry Level 3.


You will need access to a laptop or computer & email.
This course will be delivered online using Teams. You will need access to the internet and an email account. Your teacher will contact you via Teams/email, and you will have the opportunity to contribute to group discussions. You may be given tasks to complete at each session and online demonstrations. You will also need a pen, paper & calculator.


The course is assessed by learners completing a workbook with questions & calculations.


Your will complete a workbook with questions & calculations in order to gain the Level 1 Award in Managing Personal Finance.

AAT Level 1 Award in Business Skills
Skillsfirst Level 1 Award in Computerised Accounting for Business (Sage).
Skillsfirst Level 1 Award in Computerised Payroll for Business (Sage).
AAT Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping
AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting.

  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
