Course Content

This course will prepare you for a future of working with children in a range of settings including nurseries, home-based childminding, schools, and colleges. You will gain confidence through having discussions and carrying out tasks to gain an understanding of which future learning pathway is right for you. This course will cover the following:
• What does online learning involve
• Having a placement and what’s required
• How evidence will be provided to support your learning
• The different levels of qualifications available for working with early years children and in schools
• How to research and reference evidence
• British values and how this is linked to working with children
• Safeguarding children
• Policies and procedures
• Curriculums from birth to 19 (EYFS and National Curriculum)
On completion of the course, you will be guided along the pathway towards a career in the early years as, a childminder or teaching assistant.


To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as of 31st August 2023 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live, and we will check that at the enrolment stage. We may contact you for further information or refer you to an alternative provision. No previous experience is required. Basic IT skills are essential.


You will need a notepad and pen for any notes you wish to take.


Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course.


You will receive an ALSS certificate of achievement on successful completion of this course.


You will have the opportunity to meet with one of our team who will be able to offer advice on the variety of learning opportunities.

  • English, maths including GCSEs and computing courses (up to Level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2023).
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your individual employed/self employed income is below £20,319.
  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
