Course Content

This level 2 Food Safety course provides learners with the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of the importance of good personal and workplace hygiene.
It allows learners to take responsibility for food safety in a catering environment.
You will also understand how to keep food safe from contamination.
This course is intended for learners wanting to undertake training or to further develop knowledge and/or skills in this subject area.
The objectives of the course include; preparing learners to progress to a qualification in the same subject area but at a higher level or requiring more specific knowledge, skills and understanding and preparing learners for employment and supporting a role in the workplace.



This is a partnership course only open to partners of Maggie Neill House

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2023 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.
No previous experience is required. Basic IT skills are essential.


You will need a notepad and a pen.


Your teacher will give you verbal and written feedback throughout the course.


Upon achievement of the short end of day assessment you will receive the ProTraining level 2 Food Safety qualification.


Your teacher will discuss progression options during the course.

  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your individual employed/self employed income is below £25,000.
  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£25,000), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
