Course Content

Wellbeing Course 6. ‘Assertive Living Strategies – for effective communication’ is designed to empower learners with the skills and strategies needed to communicate confidently, express their needs, and build positive relationships. Learners will develop assertiveness techniques, conflict resolution strategies and effective communication methods to navigate various personal and proffesional situations. It will be delivered through a combination of teaching, interactive discussions, group activities; and roleplay. The following topics will be covered: Understanding communication styles; Principles of assertive communication; Building self-confidence; Expressing needs and boundaries; Conflict resolution skills; Assertiveness in professional and personal life.
This will enable learners to have transferable skills, such as, thinking skills, planning and time management, self assessment, problem solving and career planning

No previous experience is required. To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2023 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.


A good basic level of maths and English. No further entry requirements.


Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course, and you will create a portfolio of work as a permanent record of learning.


On completion of this course, further wellbeing and accredited courses will be made available to you. You can choose from a range of wellbeing courses such as 7. Connection with others – a guide to effective listening skills; 8. Positivity matters – creating a positive work environment. There are also various creative courses and access to the full programme of wellbeing courses. Also, progression to accredited courses such as: L1 Employability. Your teacher will discuss these with you.

  • English, maths including GCSEs and computing courses (up to Level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2023).
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your individual employed/self employed income is below £20,319.
  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
