Course Content

The course will provide a taster of the topics covered in a variety of bookkeeping and accounting qualifications.

The course will help you to:
• Use Teams in Education to attend your course.
• Have an overview of the AAT & Skillsfirst (Sage Accounts & Sage Payroll suite of qualifications)
• Review English, maths and ICT skills needed for AAT level 1 and 2 qualifications.
• Assess your current English, maths and ICT qualifications.
• Understand the possible progression options.
• Decide which is the right course for you.
• Assessment formats
• Understand the time commitments needed, attendance and planned end dates.
• Calculating net, VAT and gross figures for an invoice.
• Complete simple calculations using excel.
• Open and save documents.
• Understand basic terminology.


To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2023 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.


You will need access to a calculator, laptop or computer & email. A smartphone is not suitable.


You will get feedback through the session.


A basic understanding of the content of the accounting qualifications.
Be able to use Teams in Education to attend your course.


AAT Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping
AAT Level 1 Award in Business Skills
AAT level 2 Certificate in Accounting
Or AAT level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping
Skillsfirst level 1 Award in Computerised Payroll
Skillsfirst Award in Computerised Accounts


You must hold a maths and English qualification at level 1 and be working at level 1 in ICT in order to progress onto a level 1 course.

You must hold a maths and English qualification at level 2 and be working at level 2 in ICT in order to progress onto a level 2 course.

You must also attend the relevant Introduction to sessions for the course chosen.

  • English, maths including GCSEs and computing courses (up to Level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2024).
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your individual employed/self employed income is below £25,000.
  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£25,000), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
