Course Content

This course is for you if you want to develop your digital skills for work and at home. You’ll learn about using different devices for handling information, creating and editing, communicating and transacting while remaining safe, secure and responsible online. You will be able to gain a Digital Functional Skills Qualification on this course.
The course will help you to:
• Use devices like laptops and mobile phones for handling information.
• Create and edit documents and other types of digital media, such as images, audio files and videos.
• Communicate using email and video calls.
• Complete and submit online forms, comply with digital verification checks, and buy an item or a service online.
• Be responsible and stay safe and secure online. You will learn how to back up your data, and about the different types of online risks and how to manage them.
During the course you will be given helpful step-by-step guidance from our specialist teacher.

To be eligible for a free funded course you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2023 and not already have a qualification in Digital Skills at Level 1. Further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage; we may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.

You may wish to have a notepad and pen for taking notes and a folder to store notes and handouts.

Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course. There is a 90 minute online assessment at the end of the course.

You will receive Digital Functional Skills Qualification on successful completion of this course.

You will be able to develop your digital skills further by taking additional courses. For example, you may like to learn more about using Microsoft Office applications, such as Word and Spreadsheets, or about online safety and cybersecurity. Your teacher will discuss progression options with you.

You may like to bring a drink with you to have away from the computer and electrical equipment.
