Course Content

This qualification prepares learners for employment in adult education and supports them in progressing to a teaching role within their sector. The course will involve learning about inclusive teaching and assessment and will introduce virtual and online technologies. Discover what it is like working for ALSS within Adult Education and, if a suitable candidate, have the opportunity for an interview to teach for us.


This qualification is aimed at a range of learners aged 19+ who are thinking of teaching adults and passing on their sector knowledge and experience. Maths and English at GCSE A-C (4-9) or functional skills level 2.
30-minute interview including a written task.


Access to IT equipment for online learning. Internet access.

This qualification will be internally assessed using a range of methods, which could include written assignments or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet, charts or diagrams, or setting up an information board. Each trainee teacher must deliver at least one 15-minute micro-teaching session that is observed and assessed by the teacher and curriculum team.


Learners can progress into teaching adults aged 19+ or onto a higher level qualification. Suitable candidates will receive an interview with North Yorkshire Adult Learning and Skills Service.

  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
