Course Content

This is a 6 week face to face course which will introduce learners to counselling skills. The intent of the course is for learners to demonstrate a greater understanding of listening skills and identify what are the differences between a helper and a counsellor.
To enable learners to apply the strategies learned to their own life, building personal and professional resilience. They will build positive relationships, practice communication skills with others, focus on attending each week - 80% attendance as a minimum requirement, engage with a study buddy.
By the end of the course, learners will have gained valuable insights and practical tools to deepen their listening skills, leading to applying for accredited counselling courses.



To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2023 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.


This is a face to face session, all materials will be provided. If enrolling on the day please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance Number.



You will receive feedback through the session and will complete a workbook to capture the teaching and learning which is taking place. Discussions will take place which will also show awareness of the topic. Some written work and research will take place to raise awareness and knowledge on working in the care sector.


You will achieve a certificate in Introduction to Counselling Skills.


You will have the opportunity to meet with one of our team who will be able to offer advice on the variety of learning opportunities. You will also be offered help with CV`s and interview skills with one of our experienced and knowledgeable team.

  • English, maths and computing courses (up to level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2024)
  • Reduced course fees for non-qualification courses if you receive a qualifying benefit.
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your income is below £25,000
  • Discretionary Learner Support funding relating to cover fees, books etc (qualifications only) T&C apply.
  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
