ESOL courses can open the door to a range of work and education opportunities along with building confidence in everyday life and work.
Throughout our non-accredited courses, you will build confidence in speaking and listening. This course can support you to communicate confidently in everyday life. You will practice a range of formal vocabulary including words for more challenging or important situations.
Speaking to Communicate Formally supports you to communicate in formal situations such as interviews and meetings. It will also support customer facing work opportunities.
Although this course does not have an exam, you can attend alongside an exam based course.


This course is for anyone aged 19 or over, whose first language is not English. You will need to provide ID (such as a passport), a National Insurance number and we will need to ask you about your residency in the UK.
No previous experience is required; you will have a short initial assessment with a teacher before starting to see what class is best for you. Basic IT skills are essential.

This course is for anyone who was aged 19 or over on 31.8.23 whose first language is not English.
You will need to provide ID (such as a passport or BNO visa) a National Insurance number and we will need to ask you about your residency in the UK.
We will ask you to provide evidence of qualifications you have achieved. If you cannot provide the evidence, we will ask you to undertake an initial assessment to ensure that you are at the right level.
You will need to commit to regular attendance and to complete some study in your own time.
You will need access to a Laptop or Tablet if you plan to study online. Please be aware that smart phone access is not advised. You will need access to the internet and an email account. For online study, your teacher will contact you on a weekly basis through Teams and email. You will be given tasks to complete at each session, instructions and online demonstrations.


If you don’t have access to a computer, we may still be able to support you. Ask for an appointment with a member of staff to discuss our other options.


Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course.

An attendance certificate to show your commitment to skills building.

Other courses related to personal or professional development. This could be an exam based reading course, an ESOL course in speaking and listening or writing, an English or maths qualification, IT, employability or a course leading to work.

  • You can pay for your course in instalments (over £100). Please ask for details.
  • English, maths including GCSEs and computing courses (up to Level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2023).
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your individual employed/self employed income is below £20,319.
  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
