Course Content

This course is for those learners who have already completed the AAT level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping who would like to progress onto the AAT Certificate in Accounting. You will complete 2 additional units, Principles of Costing & Business Environment.

By the end of the course using manual book keeping students will be able to:
• Understand & produce a range of accounting documents
• Produce stock valuations using a variety of methods
• Understand cost behaviour & use coding systems
• Have a knowledge of legislation and policies in the workplace
• Understand the use of digital accounting systems
• Identify variances & the reasons that these may occir
• Use basic excel calculations
• Understand contract law & the external business environment
• Understand corporate social responsibility & sustainability


You must have previously completed the AAT level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping or the equivalent. To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2023 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.



This is a online session. You will need a computer with internet, a pen, paper and calculator.



You will get feedback through the session. Practice questions and assessments are completed at home and in class. The AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting part 2 consists of 2 AAT computer assessed modules. Currently we have access to an assessment centre in Ripon.


You will develop skills and knowledge to manage stock control & an awareness of how fiscal policies work.



You may wish to progress to AAT Level 3.

  • If you have not yet achieved a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, you could learn for FREE.
  • Don’t worry if you have already gained a Level 3 qualification, but want to change your career path and try something new – you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan which you start to pay back when you earn over £27,295.
  • From April 2023, some Level 3 courses will be available for FREE to adults who are unemployed or earning below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319), even if you already have a Level 3 qualification or higher.
