Course Content

This course will prepare you for a future of working with children in a range of settings including nurseries, home-based childminding, schools, and colleges. You will gain confidence through having discussions and carrying out tasks to gain an understanding of which future learning pathway is right for you. This course will cover the following:
• What online learning involves
• Having a placement and what’s required
• How evidence will be provided to support your learning
• The different levels of qualifications available for working with early years children and in schools.
• How to research and reference evidence
• British values and how this is linked to working with children


• Safeguarding children
• Policies and procedures
• Curriculums from birth to 19 (EYFS and National Curriculum)

On completion of the course, you will be guided along the pathway towards a career in the early years as, a childminder or teaching assistant.




To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as of 31st August 2024 and not be an apprentice.

Further eligibility may be linked to where you live, and we will check that at the enrolment stage.

We may contact you for further information or refer you to an alternative provision.

No previous experience is required. Basic IT skills are essential.

You will need a notepad and pen for any notes you wish to take.

Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course.

You will receive an ALSS certificate of achievement on successful completion of this course.

Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.

Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.

Progress to a career working in a school or college by completing a suitable qualification.

  • English, maths and computing courses (up to level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2024)
  • Reduced course fees for non-qualification courses if you receive a qualifying benefit.
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your income is below £25,000
  • Discretionary Learner Support funding relating to cover fees, books etc (qualifications only) T&C apply.
  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
