Learning in the local community has changed the lives of many adults across North Yorkshire and you could be one of them!
Research shows that learning throughout adulthood and into later life encourages important social interaction, gives a sense of hope and purpose and helps cope with stress, all of which has a positive impact on maintaining and improving our mental health and wellbeing.
The Placenames and Etymology course is a fun and practical way of building confidence and expanding your knowledge of local history. The course will explore place names in your area and across North Yorkshire handed down through the years, as well as teach invaluable personal, social and communication skills.

During the course, you will:
• read articles and extracts from a wide range of sources
• discuss what you discover
• consider the evidence (fact or fiction)
• share your own opinions
• create a personal and group collection of favourites.
This course is delivered in 2-hour sessions over 5 weeks.
