Course Content

The level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping covers a range of complex accounting tasks, including maintaining cost accounting records and the preparation of reports and returns while complying to Accounting ethics. The course comprises of 2 mandatory units:
Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements
Tax Processes for Businesses

The course will help you to:
• Understand business types, structures & governance.
• Prepare final accounts for sole traders and partnerships.
• Complete year-end adjustments such as depreciation, accruals and prepayments.
• Record the purchases, sales and other entries for fixed assets.
• Calculate VAT and prepare a VAT return.


To be eligible for a free funded course you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2024 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.


You will need access to a calculator, laptop or computer & email. A smartphone is not suitable.


Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course. You will complete online practice assessments during the course and 2 assessments at our assessment venue in Ripon.


AAT Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping

Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.
Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.


AAT level 3 Diploma in Accounting


You must hold an AAT qualification at level 2 or equivalent, maths and English at level 2 and be working at level 2 in ICT. You must also attend the two Introduction to accounts level 3 sessions.

  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
