Course Content

This is a 2-week non-accredited course, which needs to be completed prior to progressing to the AAT Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping.

The course will help you to:
• Understand the content of the AAT suite of qualifications
• Assess your English, maths and ICT skills needed for AAT level 1 and 2 qualifications
• Know the time commitments needed, attendance, assessment and planned end dates
• See the different methods of teaching used in the AAT courses
• Learn about the possible progression options
• Decide if accounting is the right course for you
• Learn different terminology
• Understand the role of a bookkeeper and the day-to-day tasks completed
• Learn how to calculate net, VAT and gross values



To be eligible for a free funded course you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2024 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.
Basic IT skills are essential.
You should hold qualifications at level 1 in maths and English.


Face to face sessions – You will need a pen, paper and calculator.
Online sessions - You will need a pen, paper and calculator. You will also need access to a computer or laptop with internet and email.



Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course.


You will achieve an understanding of the requirements of the AAT qualifications, particularly the AAT level 1 Award Bookkeeping. You will also have some understanding of the role of a bookkeeper and accounting terms used.

Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.
Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.

You must also attend the relevant Introduction to sessions for the course chosen.

  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
