Course Content

This is a non-accredited course, which needs to be completed prior to progressing to the Skillsfirst Level 1 Award in Computerised Payroll for Business.

This course enables learners to progress to Skillfirst level 1 Computerised Payroll where you will use Sage Cloud Payroll accounting software to calculate wages, produce wageslips & a range of required documentation.

The course will help you to:
• Have an overview of the content of the Skillsfirst Award in Computerised Payroll
• Have a knowledge of legislation that must be adhered to when employing staff
• Calculate Gross pay using time rate, piecework & overtime
• Calculate maternity pay
• Calculate NI & PAYE
• Understand information required for new starters

Open Entry Requirements


To be eligible for a free funded course you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2024 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.
Basic IT skills are essential.
You should hold qualifications at level 2 in maths and English.

Online sessions - You will need a pen, paper and calculator. You will also need access to a computer or laptop with internet and email.

Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course.

You will achieve an understanding of the requirements of the Skillsfirst level 1 Computerised Payroll for Business and of the topics studied in the first module.

Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.
Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.
