Course Content

This is a two-hour session where you will learn about Dementia, what the term means and difficulties those with Dementia face daily. The course will cover how Dementia affects the caregivers and the individual themselves and why they need to be treated as a person first. The session will cover communication and memory difficulties individuals with Dementia can experience, and ways to overcome these issues. Learners will be provided with some interesting statistics about Dementia.


To be eligible for a free funded course you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2024 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.


You may wish to bring a notepad and pen for taking notes and a folder to store notes and handouts.


Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course.

You will achieve more understanding and awareness of Dementia.

Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.
Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.

This course can lead to a Level 1 in Dementia and the Introduction to Health and Social Care.

The course will help you to:

  • English, maths and computing courses (up to level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2024)
  • Reduced course fees for non-qualification courses if you receive a qualifying benefit.
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your income is below £25,000

  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
